The Offseason is Over: Lakota Players Return to the Weight Room

As the calendar flips to May, the familiar sound of weights clanging and athletes pushing their limits fills the Oglala Lakota Nation. May 1st marks not just a date on the calendar but the beginning of a new chapter in the Wolfpack’s journey—a relentless chase for the championship.

After a well-deserved 6-week offseason, our players are lacing up and heading back to the weight room. It’s here that the foundation for a successful season is laid, with each squat, press, and lift. The dedication and hard work restart now, as last year’s achievements are behind us, and the slate is wiped clean.

Building New Equity

Last year’s equity is gone and  past success doesn’t guarantee future victories. Every drop of sweat and every moment of effort in the weight room is an investment in this year’s “equity.” It’s about building strength, endurance, and resilience—qualities that define champions.

The Chase Begins

May 1st is more than just a return to routine; it’s the day the chase for the championship recommences. It’s a call to action for every returning player and a welcome challenge for every newcomer. As our coaches often say, “Let’s build new equity today.” This mindset shifts our focus from what we’ve achieved to what we can achieve.

As the weight room buzzes with activity, it’s clear that the Wolfpack is not just preparing for another season; they are gearing up to chase greatness. With every lift, they’re not just training their bodies but forging their will to win, setting the tone for the intense competitions ahead
